AdvocacyIn order to help reduce regulatory burden, credit unions are encouraged to get involved to advocate for change before regulations and laws become final. Together with credit unions, the CUNA/League system works to advocate on credit union's behalf, both locally and in Washington

The League and CUNA also work with state and federal regulators to improve the examination process for credit unions and ensure that examiners are following fair and equitable practices

Legislative Advocacy

One way the Michigan Credit Union League and CUNA assist with regulatory compliance is through the legislative process (state and federal), helping to ensure that credit union friendly laws are passed.

Regulatory Advocacy

The MCUL and CUNA also work with state and federal regulators such as the CFPB, NCUA and state regulators to reduce and minimize the level of credit union regulatory burden.

Examination Fairness

The MCUL and CUNA both conduct annual examination surveys to allow credit unions the opportunity to provide feedback on their exam experience. Results are used for advocacy efforts with applicable regulators. CUNA and the MCUL both support federal legislation to bring fairness to the examination and appeals process as well as advocating for longer examination cycles.
